Walmart Plus is taking on Amazon Prime in what is the biggest online retail battle to hit the US in recent times. This report delves into the excitement around the service, especially given the retail chain’s popularity and already huge customer base. Walmart, as well as other retailers, can leverage this data in their decision making.

Walmart debuted its own paid subscription service called Walmart Plus this month to ramp-up it’s online and delivery presence in the face of the coronavirus pandemic. With several new features like scan-and-go purchasing and discounts on gas, the retail giant is all set to bring some serious competition in the online retail space, most notably to Amazon Prime.  Already a household name in the country, Walmart’s latest offering comes at just the right time before the holiday season kicks in. Two weeks into its launch, what are the initial consumer reactions? Piplsay polled 20,179 Americans nationwide to get some insights. Here’s a summary of what we found:

  • Among those interested, about 36% of Millennials and Gen Xers have taken both Walmart Plus and Amazon Prime subscription
  • 56% of Gen Zers are excited about the mobile scan-and-go feature as compared to 44% of Gen Xers

Survey Methodology: This Piplsay survey (powered by Market Cube) was conducted nationwide in the US from September 27-28, 2020. We received 20,179 online responses from individuals aged 18 years and older.
