The new ‘more transmissible’ coronavirus strain from the UK has been detected in at least ten US states, even as more strains continue to be detected across countries. This report delves into the thoughts and opinions of people as they live amid fears of fresh infections. Government agencies and businesses can leverage this data in their decision making.

The US has begun its most extensive vaccination program in history, even as new virus strains continue to raise fresh concerns among health officials and the public alike. Besides the UK strain, there are fears that a possible US variant of the coronavirus may already be fuelling the virus’s spread, threatening lives, and overwhelming hospitals that are already stretched thin. With the worst far from over, how fearful or hopeful are Americans amid the developing situation? Piplsay polled 30,248 people nationwide to get some insights. Here is a summary of what we found:

  • An almost equal number of men (49%) and women (51%) are equally or more scared of the new virus strains
  • 57% of Millennials are comfortable making travel plans amid the new strains as compared to 43% of Gen Zers
  • 45% of Gen Zers and 50% each of Millenials and Gen Xers plan to take safety precautions very seriously amid the new virus strains

Survey Methodology: This Piplsay survey (powered by Market Cube) was conducted nationwide in the US from January 15-17, 2021. We received 30,248 online responses from individuals aged 18 years and older.
