Halloween celebrations will look different this fall with some regions canceling celebrations and warning against trick-or-treating amid coronavirus restrictions. This report brings insights into how Americans may forego traditions and celebrate Halloween this year. Events planners, as well as candy manufacturers, can leverage this data in their decision making.

Halloween is coming up, and several states have already started gearing up for the festivity. Even candy makers are looking forward to the month of sweet sales, though many have scaled back on their Halloween specific confectionaries. The spooky holiday though, will certainly not be the same this year, with even the CDC warning people to stay away from many traditional Halloween activities amid the ongoing pandemic. Given the growing concerns and restrictions, how different will the celebrations be this year? Piplsay polled 30,330 people nationwide to get these insights. Here’s a summary of what we found:

  • 57% of men are more comfortable letting their kids go trick-or-treating as compared to 43% of women
  • 46% of Millennials and 39% of Gen Zers would be interested in attending Halloween events and parties this year
  • 35% of Gen Xers and Gen Zers will consume far fewer candies this year as compared to 29% of Millennials

Survey Methodology: This Piplsay survey (powered by Market Cube) was conducted nationwide in the US from September 19-20, 2020. We received 30,330 online responses from individuals aged 18 years and older.
