It’s just been more than a year since the federal ban on sports betting was lifted, and already 20 states and DC have legalized the activity. Piplsay (powered by Market Cube) conducted this nationwide study to dig deep into the changing public perception and betting trends. State legislators, as well as bookmakers, can leverage this data in their decision making.

Sports betting is getting popular in the US, with several states expected to legalize it this year. However, despite the growing acceptance, a handful of states continue to oppose it even today. What does the American public feel about it, and how keen are they to place bets on their favorite sport? To find out, Piplsay polled 28,553 Americans nationwide. Here’s a summary of what we found:

  • 41% of millennials indulge in sports betting as compared to 33% of Gen Xers and 29% of Gen Zers
  • About 50% of millennials and Gen Xers support the legalization of sports betting
  • 32% of women place their bets at casinos as compared to 25% of men
  • Close to 65% of Rhode Island and Nevada residents support the legalization of sports betting
  • Only 13% of Vermont residents support the legalization of sports betting, 61% are unsure

Survey Methodology: This Piplsay survey (powered by Market Cube) was conducted nationwide in the US in the month of February 2020. We received 28,553 online responses from individuals aged 18 years and older.
